2016-03-10

10.03.2016The RA Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan received the delegation of the Spanish “Global Desarrollos and Ingenieria” joint-stock company to discuss the planned joint projects on the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agriculture.

Within the framework of the Memorandum, which was signed in January 2015 between “Global Desarrollos and Ingenieria” joint-stock company and the Ministry of Agriculture, the company set out to build 5 hectares of greenhouses in Armenia, establishing intensive orchards surrounding those greenhouses.

“The issue of greenhouses construction and intensive orchards establishment is one of the priority tasks of our country, and I am convinced that your successful experience with other foreign companies will set a vivid example to expand your activities in Armenia,” Sergo Karapetyan said, welcoming the guests.

Referring to the importance of the investment of modern irrigation technologies and anti-hail protection nets for the maintenance of intensive orchards, the Minister proposed to organize the production of anti-hail and irrigation systems, which can reduce the cost of production and export manufactured protective measures to the EEU countries, where there is also a demand for new technologies.

On this occasion the guests added that currently negotiations are underway with the Spanish commercial banks to get long-term loans with low interest rates for the purpose of financing the planned projects.

Given Spain’s rich experience in the creation and development of agricultural cooperatives, the guests proposed to include this sector in the framework of bilateral cooperation. In this context, they proposed to organize joint educational visits for the exchange of experience. Welcoming this proposal, Sergo Karapetyan expressed hope that such visits will be fruitful and mutually beneficial.

During the meeting the sides discussed other issues of bilateral interest.
