Issues are Discussed Related to the Activities of the Slaughterhouses

Under the initiative of the Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan a meeting was held with the owners of the slaughterhouses operating in the country to discuss current issues. 

 

During the meeting the Minister noted that the Ministry of Agriculture has already built and put into operation five slaughterhouses. In the near future two more slaughterhouses are planned to supplement the slaughterhouses network, which will enable to carry out agricultural animal slaughter with modern equipments providing consumers with safe and high-quality meat and meat products. The Minister also said that the activities of the slaughterhouses should be grounds for refusing to slaughter in yards. 

 

“We attach great importance to the slaughterhouse work because of their exceedingly great role in food security and general promotion of livestock development and our goal is to discuss and solve all the problems of the operating slaughterhouses in order to begin work in full swing,” the Minister Sergo Karapetyan said in his speech. 

 

During the meeting the owners of the slaughterhouses presented the Minister the current situation and existing problems of the slaughterhouses. Accordingly, several slaughterhouses have already begun to implement slaughter, have contracts in the domestic market as well as carry out exports particularly to the Islamic Republic of Iran, the other part of the slaughterhouses have problems with sales related to the product competitiveness. 

 

During the discussion participants stressed that meat which is supplied to public catering objects, must be imposed with a mandatory slaughterhouse slaughter. 

 

The Minister urged them to intensify their activities stressing that the government attaches great importance to food safety issues and assists in solving problems with extent possible.
