Referring to the published information of the media about the decrease of wheat import volumes the press service the Ministry of Agriculture issued a statement on the matter in which it is stated:

 

The fact itself is gratifying because it demonstrates the increase of the domestic production volumes rather than the volumes of imports.

 

The decrease of wheat imports is mainly due to the fact that in 2012 the volume of imports was very high and exceeded the annual average level of imports by 107.5 thousand tons for the period 2008-2012.

 

In 2012-2013 the country produced 243.1 and 306.6 thousand tons of wheat, which is higher by 8.5 and 36.8 percent than the production volume of 2011 and this also contributed to the decrease in the volume of imports.

 

“So the trend of decrease in wheat imports, which was covered by separate media, is logical and justified,” the statement said.
