The Veterinary and Livestock Agriculture Department of the Ministry organizes works directed at protection and development of livestock genofond, as well as performs pedigree livestock selection works for all the branches of livestock agriculture.
The Department works out concepts and projects for development of livestock agriculture branches, bee farming and fishing, deals with organization of artificial insemination process of livestock in the RA, as well as develops activities for abolishing sites of diseases revealed during monitoring of livestock epidemic situation.
Over the last years, the Department performed significant works to improve legislative environment of livestock agriculture. National Assembly of the RA adopted laws on “Protection of Selection Achievements”, “Pedigree Livestock Breeding” and “Bee Farming”.
For enacting the RA Law on “Pedigree Livestock Breeding” the RA approved and put into operation the regulations on “Bonitation of pedigree livestock, and its assessment according to the offspring quality” and “Use of stud in livestock agriculture in the Republic of Armenia, “Certification of stud in the Republic of Armenia”, “Organization and conducting of pedigree livestock monitoring” and “Maintenance of state stud books and cadastre of pedigree animal herds and flocks”.
On monthly basis, the Department together with the RA National Statistical Service organized, collected and analyzed the production volumes of livestock agricultural products.
Information about large farming companies existing in the country, as well as about discovered sites of diseases are collected and mapped.
As per marz the balance of providing livestock with sufficient forage in nursery period on account of own forage production is recorded and worked out.
The Department developed “Cattle breeding development program in Armenia”, “Sheep breeding development concept in Armenia”.
The Department prepared livestock and pedigree animal recording forms.
